Privacy Policy
This policy explains how Mason Kemeny, trading as Mas0nk, handles personal information through the Mas0nk website (mas0nk.com), the Movie Night app and related services (together, the “Services”).
Effective date: 11 October 2026
1. Who is responsible
Mason Kemeny, trading as Mas0nk, is responsible for personal information handled through the Services. Contact: mas0nk.dev@gmail.com.
We follow the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) as a matter of practice, whether or not the Act strictly applies to us.
2. What this covers
Movie Night is available on iPhone and iPad, with an Apple TV app, home screen widgets and a Messages extension. It does not need a Mas0nk account; it uses your Apple Account and iCloud. The website (mas0nk.com) does not need an account either. If we release another app that handles information differently, we will update this policy before it is released.
3. Information Movie Night handles
Movie Night handles information you enter or choose to use in the app:
- Profile details: display name, email address, photo, home address or location notes, preferred country, home theatre setup, equipment preferences and host notes.
- Film and TV activity: watchlist, viewing status, ratings, notes, episode progress, dates, reminders and personal collections.
- Movie night events: title, date and time, location, notes, and invitee names and email addresses you add.
- App preferences: appearance and sorting choices.
This content is stored on your device and synced through your private iCloud account using Apple CloudKit. Mas0nk does not run a separate database for Movie Night and cannot see this content.
4. Groups
Where Groups is available, you can create or join a group with other people. A group is stored in the organiser’s private iCloud and shared with members through Apple CloudKit sharing. Members of a group can see what is shared in it, such as the group’s name and emoji, each member’s name, photo and home theatre setup, and shared films, movie nights, RSVPs, votes and ratings. Only share a group invitation with people you want to see this information. If you leave or delete a group, or the organiser deletes it, access changes as described in the app. This data stays in iCloud and is not sent to Mas0nk.
5. Analytics, session replays and diagnostics
Movie Night includes two third-party tools, both configured by us. Both link what they collect to a random profile identifier generated for your Movie Night profile, which is the same on all your devices. It is not your name, email address or Apple Account.
PostHog (United States) collects product analytics, session replays, handled error reports and operational logs:
- Usage events: around 50 in-app actions (for example watchlist changes, ratings, movie nights, groups, collections, trailer plays, Smart Search use, and paywall and purchase outcomes) and the screens you view. Purchase events record the product, trial and outcome, never the price.
- Films: films are recorded by their TMDB ID, not as title text. Because events are linked to your profile identifier, this shows which films you interact with. We do not record names, contacts, notes or other content you enter.
- Device and app: iOS version, device model, app version and build, language and region setting, time zone, screen size, whether you are on Wi-Fi or cellular, and an install identifier created by PostHog.
- Approximate location: PostHog receives your IP address when your device connects and uses it to work out your country, state and city. Postcode and coordinates are removed, and the IP address is stored in shortened form.
- App settings and status: theme, app icon, content region, whether notification and calendar permissions are granted, iCloud status, Apple Intelligence availability, widgets in use, Movie Night Pro status and plan, library sizes and first app version.
- Session replays: screenshots of the app about once a second while you use it, plus your taps. All text and people’s photos are masked, no network data is captured, and replays are kept for 30 days.
- Smart Search: see below.
- Handled errors: error reports with personal details removed.
Sentry (United States) collects crash and error diagnostics. We configure it not to collect default personal data such as IP addresses, names or email addresses. It receives:
- Crashes and hangs: stack traces, device model, iOS and app version, and iOS hang reports.
- Handled errors: what the app was doing (for example an iCloud save) and the cause of the error, with iCloud identities removed.
- Performance traces: a sample of screen loads, taps and network requests to TMDB, OMDb and iTunes, with search text and API keys removed from the web addresses recorded.
- Breadcrumbs: the steps before a crash, such as “created a group”, without personal content.
Smart Search. When you use Smart Search, your request is interpreted on your device using Apple Intelligence. To monitor and improve its quality, the text you typed, how it was interpreted, and timing and error details are sent to PostHog. This text can contain anything you type, so do not enter personal information into Smart Search that you do not want sent.
Your control. You can turn off analytics and session replays at any time in the app under Settings › Advanced. Crash and error reports from Sentry are part of how Movie Night stays stable and cannot be switched off in the app. You can also ask us to delete data linked to you (section 9).
We do not sell this data, do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising, do not use it to track you across other companies’ apps or websites, and do not combine it with other companies’ data for advertising.
6. Payments
Movie Night Pro subscriptions are bought through the App Store. Apple processes the payment under its own terms. We receive confirmation that a subscription is active. We do not receive your card details.
7. Device permissions
- Contacts: if you allow access, the system contact picker gives Movie Night only the contact you choose (name, email address and photo) so you can pick invitees. The app does not read your address book and we do not upload it. You can refuse or revoke access in iOS Settings and enter invitees manually.
- Calendar (write-only): if you allow access, Movie Night can add or update an event in your calendar. It does not read your calendar.
- Camera: the scanner uses the camera. Text recognition runs on your device. If you choose “Find Matches”, the recognised text is sent to The Movie Database (TMDB) as a title search. The camera image is not sent to us.
- Venue search: text you type into venue search is sent to Apple MapKit to return place suggestions. The app does not request your device’s precise location.
- Notifications: reminders are scheduled as local notifications on your device.
8. Who we share information with
We do not sell personal information. We share information with these providers only to run the Services:
- Apple (iCloud and CloudKit, App Store, MapKit, iTunes Search): app data synced through iCloud, purchase records, venue search text, and film title and country for preview information. See Apple’s Privacy Policy.
- Sentry: crash reports, performance traces and diagnostics. See Sentry’s privacy policy.
- PostHog: analytics events, session replays, error reports, logs and Smart Search text. See PostHog’s privacy policy.
- Google (YouTube): trailer plays, which happen in YouTube’s own player. See below.
- UserJot: feedback you submit through the feedback page, and any contact details you include with it. See UserJot’s privacy policy.
- TMDB: search terms and title IDs, for film and TV information and artwork. See TMDB’s privacy policy.
- OMDb: IMDb title IDs, for external ratings. See the OMDb service terms.
YouTube. Movie Night uses YouTube API Services to play trailers. Google’s Privacy Policy (http://www.google.com/policies/privacy) applies to trailers played through YouTube.
When you create an event invitation, the iOS share sheet lets you choose how to send the calendar file. The service and recipients you choose then receive the details in that file, including the night’s details and your email address as the calendar organiser. Mas0nk does not send invitations for you.
We may also disclose information where required by law or to protect safety, rights or security.
9. Retention and deleting your data
- Movie Night content: kept on your device and in iCloud until you delete it. You can edit or delete events, collections and groups in the app. Turning off iCloud for Movie Night stops syncing but may not delete existing iCloud data, and deleting the app may not delete iCloud data. You can manage or delete it under iCloud storage settings in your Apple Account. We cannot see or delete your private iCloud data.
- Session replays: kept for 30 days.
- Other diagnostics and analytics (Sentry and PostHog): kept for as long as needed to fix problems and understand how the app is used, then deleted under each provider’s retention settings. To have data linked to you deleted, email us and we will help. Turning off analytics in Settings › Advanced stops new analytics being collected but does not by itself delete what was already collected.
- Payment records: held by Apple.
- Anything else: email mas0nk.dev@gmail.com for access, correction or deletion requests.
10. Website
- Your display theme is saved in your browser’s local storage.
- The website loads fonts from Google Fonts and scripts from the unpkg content delivery network. Those services receive your IP address and browser details when your browser requests them.
- Our web host may keep technical access logs (IP address, browser type, page requested and time).
- The newsletter form on the website currently only shows a confirmation in your browser and does not collect or store your email address. If a mailing service is connected, we will update this policy before email addresses are collected.
- The website does not use analytics or advertising cookies.
11. Overseas handling
Our providers may process information outside Australia, including in the United States. Sentry and PostHog data is processed in their United States regions. Apple, Google (including YouTube and Google Fonts), TMDB, OMDb, UserJot and unpkg may also process information in other countries. We take reasonable steps to choose providers with appropriate security practices, but their own privacy policies govern what they do with information. By using the Services you understand your information may be handled outside Australia.
12. Security
We take reasonable steps to protect information we hold, including using reputable providers. Movie Night’s cloud sync is provided by Apple CloudKit, and access to Contacts, Calendar and camera is controlled by Apple’s permission system. No internet service is completely secure. If a data breach is likely to cause serious harm to you, we will notify you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) as the law requires.
13. Children
Our Services are for people aged 13 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
14. Your choices and rights
You can ask what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, withdraw your consent to analytics and session replays in Settings › Advanced, and refuse or revoke device permissions in your device settings. If you are in the EU or UK, or in California, you may have additional rights under local law. Contact us and we will respond.
15. Complaints and contact
Email mas0nk.dev@gmail.com. We will review and respond to complaints. If you are not satisfied, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
16. Changes to this policy
We will update this policy when our practices change, including when we release features or apps that handle information differently. We will change the effective date at the top and, for material changes, give notice in the app or on the website.
